Restorative Dentistry in Raleigh, NC

With some types of dental care, we can treat underlying dental problems before they worsen. We ask our patients to contact our office if they have concerns about missing teeth, damaged tooth enamel, or infected gum tissue. Our office can also coordinate implant treatment with oral surgeons and dental laboratories to ensure that tooth crowns, dental bridges, and dentures stay in place. Restorative care includes:

Dental Bridge

This restoration can “bridge the gap” left by one or more consecutive missing teeth. Dental bridges are fixed restorations that can use dental implants or crown-capped adjacent natural teeth for support.

Tooth Crowns

A dental crown is a cap that fully covers single teeth. Crowns can protect and add strength to worn and damaged teeth. We can also provide dental crowns for patients after root canal treatment to ensure that they have a balanced bite.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are one of the most effective dental restorations for patients with lost permanent teeth. Single dental implants consist of a metal post, abutment, and dental crown. Oral surgeons place implants in the jaw bone to replace single missing teeth or secure restorations for multiple lost teeth.

Full and Partial Dentures

We recommend dentures and partials for patients with rows or full arches of missing teeth. Partial dentures restore rows of lost teeth, while full or complete dentures can replace an upper and/or lower row of teeth.

TMJ Treatment

Jaw injuries or stress to the joints cause temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD). Patients with TMD often experience headaches, toothaches, jaw pain, and bruxism (teeth clenching and grinding). We provide TMJ treatment for patients with custom nightguards and Botox. Nightguards alleviate pressure on the TMJ, prevent further tooth wear, and help minimize headaches and migraines. Dr. Giggey can also inject Botox® into targeted areas of the face to relieve TMJ headaches and orofacial pain.

Gum Disease Treatment

Periodontitis, or gum disease, is a gradual infection that breaks down the gum tissue. Over time, patients with gum disease experience swollen gum tissue, gum recession, and loose permanent teeth. We offer several periodontal disease treatments such as antibacterial rinses and deep cleaning treatments. A deep dental cleaning is called scaling and root planing and it will remove harmful bacteria that leads to gum disease.

Restorative Dental Care FAQs

We welcome patients to discover more about restorative dentistry with answers to these popular patient questions:

Are partial dentures like dental bridges?

Both partial dentures and dental bridges can restore multiple missing teeth. However, partial dentures are typically removable and consist of a gum-colored base with false teeth. Traditional dental bridges use adjacent natural teeth for support. Bridges are a better option for patients missing one or two consecutive teeth.

Do I have gum disease if my gums bleed?

Many patients can experience bleeding gums if they brush their teeth too aggressively. However, bleeding gums can also be an indicator of gingivitis or gum inflammation. Once harmful bacteria build up between teeth, they can irritate and inflame the gum tissue. This irritation can lead to bleeding gums.

What are the main causes of TMD?

Some of the most common causes of TMD include:

  • Chronic teeth clenching and grinding
  • Strain and stress on the TMJ
  • Trauma to the head, neck, or jaw

Please call our office if you have any of these problems or if you notice changes in the comfort of your teeth, bite, or jaw joints.
